Telefunken RM-5C

Designed by renowned ribbon microphone specialists Jerry Silvia & David Browning, the RM-5C represents a technical breakthrough in ribbon microphone construction. The highly directional cardioid pickup pattern, improved output level, and wider frequency response is achieved through optimal acoustic design and use of cutting edge magnetic materials.

The result is a mic with a frequency response from 30 to 18,000 Hz and an output impedance that matches well with any high quality microphone preamplifier, making the RM-5C better suited to modern recording techniques than any previous ribbon microphone. Sonically, the RM-5C is more aggressive sounding than any previous ribbon. Its top end is open and extended, but never harsh. Its low end is solid and robust, but never bulbous. However, the RM-5C still retains the smoothness that classic ribbons are known for, while exhibiting some slightly radical (but welcome) changes.
